SERVICES
Our Doctors provide both eye examinations and surgical care for children from birth through 18 years of age. Additionally, we treat adults with eye muscle disorders. Our patients come to us with a range of medical and surgical diagnoses from comprehensive examinations and failed vision screening to complicated medical and surgical problems. The office is opened six days a week to provide for both scheduled appointments and emergency visits. There is a physician on call whenever the office is closed. We also prescribe and fit contact lenses for many of our older patients.
Eye Exams:
Our ophthalmologists perform comprehensive eye exams on children of all ages. Many children are referred to our office after failing a vision screening exam at school or at the pediatrician’s office.
Often, the child needs only glasses to correct a vision problem or no intervention at all; however, sometimes a more complex treatment plan is required. It is important to note that with vision, children are not just little adults. They may present a unique set of problems. Often, communication skills and cooperation can factor into the ability to perform a complete eye exam. The focus of our examinations may be very different from an adult exam depending on the age and developmental level of the patient as well as the presenting complaint. Our pediatric ophthalmologists are specially trained and equipped to diagnose and treat each child.
Medical and Surgical Evaluations:
At Pediatric Eye Associates we treat a wide spectrum of ophthalmologic disorders. The most common problems we see are amblyopia (commonly known as lazy eye) and ocular alignment and movement disorders (strabismus). Whether the problem requires optical correction, amblyopia therapy, or surgery, our specialists offer the very best care. We are often asked to evaluate children with headaches or learning disabilities to be sure that an ocular or vision diagnosis is not the cause of their difficulty. Additionally, children may have tear drainage problems, droopy eyelids, benign or malignant tumors, and even cataracts or glaucoma. Each of these problems as well as others, require special diagnostic and treatment modalities offered by our pediatric ophthalmologists.
